Resource assignment in Maverick is built around a workgroup browser and an allocation bar chart — so you can find the right person and verify their availability in the same panel. Here's the complete workflow from opening the panel to confirming the assignment is conflict-free.
1. Open the resource assignment panel for the task
Click the resource assignment icon on any task row in the task grid. The panel opens alongside the Gantt chart, showing the current assignments for that task and a workgroup browser on the left. You can keep this panel open as you move between tasks — it updates automatically to reflect whichever task is currently selected.
2. Browse the workgroup tree to find the right resource
The left side of the assignment panel shows your resource pool organized by workgroup. Expand departments, teams, or custom groups to navigate to the specific person, machine, or material you need. The search bar at the top of the tree filters the list as you type — useful for large organizations where scrolling isn't practical.
3. Check availability before assigning
Before committing, click a resource name to see their availability calendar for the task's date range. Green periods indicate free time; amber and red indicate partial or full booking on other tasks. Assigning during green periods prevents instant over-allocation from appearing in the bar chart. If the only available slot is amber, you may need to adjust the task dates or split the work.
4. Set the allocation amount
Drag the resource from the tree onto the task, then set the allocation amount in the field that appears. Enter a percentage (50% for half-time) or a fixed number of hours. Maverick calculates the cost impact immediately based on the resource's billing rate, so you can see the budget effect of each assignment before saving it.
5. Review the allocation bar chart
After assigning, switch to the resource allocation bar chart to see the full picture across all tasks. Each bar shows how heavily a resource is booked for the period. Green is correctly allocated, amber is under-utilized, and red is over-allocated. Resolve any red bars before the plan is finalized — over-committed resources are the most common cause of schedule slip that could have been caught at planning time.
